The course takes between four to six hours to complete depending on your learning pace. You may take the course in as many sessions as you would like. We recommend that you complete the course over four to six weeks, dedicating one hour per week.
The course covers a wide range of topics across six parts: an introduction, four parts of instruction, and a conclusion. Topics include:
Part 1: The foundations of trauma and its impact on health, aging, family caregiving, and service delivery.
Part 2: An overview of the PCTI approach and strategies to apply it based on your role and setting.
Part 3: Considerations for applying the PCTI approach across populations (such as Holocaust survivors and military veterans) and practicing making PCTI decisions.
Part 4: Practice using the PCTI approach in real-world scenarios and applying it to your work using the PCTI Approach Toolkit.

You can access the course in two ways. You can register for the course as an individual or as a group. If you are interested in taking the course independently from your organization, you can enroll directly through the course website or by clicking here. If you are interested in registering multiple learners at your organization to take the course together, you can submit an inquiry for group registration. Group registration can be helpful for those running professional and volunteer development programs and team or organization-wide training initiatives. If you submit an inquiry for group registration, one of our team members will reach out to assist.
There are no prerequisite credentials or education levels needed to complete this course. This course is introductory and designed to be taken by anyone working, volunteering, or interested in aging services.
To complete the course you will need to have access to a computer or tablet and internet. It is also recommended that you use a standard web browser such as Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
Assignments are reviewed manually by the Center team before the conclusion of the course is unlocked. Once your assignment is reviewed, an email notification will be sent informing you that you can proceed in the course. The Center may reach out to you if there are questions with or issues accessing your assignments.
We aim to respond to review assignments in 3-5 business days. If 5 business days have passed and you haven’t heard from the Center or have questions about the status of your assignment, please email us at PCTItraining@JewishFederations.org.
Upon successful completion of the course, a certificate of completion is awarded. Your certificate will be available in your course account. To successfully complete the course, you must review all required written and video content, complete the required assignments, and obtain a score of 80% or higher on all four assessments. You may attempt the assessments as many times as you would like.
Five CEs are available to social workers through the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). For more information, please click here.
You may take as much of the course as you would like. However, the course is designed to be taken according to the order of the curriculum. It is not possible to explore later sections of the course before completing earlier sections.
Also, please keep in mind that the course is designed to be completed in full to obtain a certificate of completion and CEs. It is not possible to take a portion of the course to receive a portion of the CEs or a modified certificate of completion.
Yes, all text, videos, and resources in the course are screen reader accessible. Screen readers will pick up alt text on images and graphics. Any graphics that require further description will also have an accessible PDF format available to view. All videos are captioned and have an accessible PDF transcript available to view.
